Three wise men
I sipped discount liquor
With Ray and Larry
on a seaside patio
at Charley’s Bar and Grill.
Not ten feet from where we sat
a hopeful looking younger man
unboxed a diamond ring.
It caught the sun’s last rays,
gleamed a brilliant shine.
His woman shrieked in ecstasy.
Special, chosen, her face beamed.
“My life is now complete.”
Our smiles hid our inner thoughts.
Then Larry said,
“Happy hour is over”
